It’s been great to have updates from optician Ruth Easton during her charity mission to Africa.

Ruth, from Specsavers in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, travelled to a charity in Uganda and set up a temporary clinic that treated 700 people.

Ruth_Easton_SpecsaversShe was based at the House of Joy during November last year and we were pleased to donate ophthalmic drops and hygiene products for the mission to the Kasala region of Uganda.

The refraction clinic Ruth held with two friends helped determine if a child needs glasses or eye treatment. In addition to the products Three-Sixty donated, Ruth had also collected more than 1,000 frames to help patients.

Three-Sixty provides a wide range of ophthalmic products, such as contact lens solutions, eyedrops and eyewear products to opticians and eyecare shops and clinics. The company has donated £250 worth of items to the trip.

Peter Simpson, General Manager at Three-Sixty, said the company recognised the important job Ruth had undertaken.

“Ruth approached us with the idea of what she was planning and we immediately agreed to support her mission, supplying eyedrops and hygiene products,” said Peter.

“Such products will be very scarce in Uganda and will ensure Ruth’s voluntary work is supported in helping assess and support the eyecare of the children and local community in the area she is visiting.”

Ruth has appeared in the latest edition of Optician magazine (pictured) and has also sent us a number of photographs of her mission with some patients using our eyedrops products.

Three-Sixty is an optical wholesaler supplying optometrists, and eyecare specialists throughout the UK from its base in Newtown, Powys.

It has actively promoted eye health by supporting humanitarian and local charities over the years.
